On August 29, 2015 I and about 500 naturals attended the 2nd annual CURLFEST 2015 in Brooklyn’s own Prospect Park. The Curly Girl Collective put together a well-planned festival for women of all colors, sizes, textures and curl patterns. The event was not just a simple party in the park, but a safe space that celebrated and acknowledged natural beauty.
The CGC branched out a bit this year, giving us all a few natural hair nuggets of information to leave with. From big chop and hair styling demonstrations to picnic table discussions. CURLFEST attendees were able to hang with friends, make new friends and gain a wealth of information on hair, health and fitness. There were numerous vendors and booths pertaining to either hair or apparel, there was something for everybody. They were selling shirts, dresses, sunglasses… the lines were crazy, everyone wanted to leave with something to prove that they attended the end of the summer blowout event. Some of these vendors included: Nick-Knacks (my fave), Haus of Swag, 2 Lite Creations and many more!
Various booths shared information on best hair practices and hair styles. SheaMoisture hosted a braid bar showing onlookers super innovative ways to style and braid their hair. The CURLFEST Salon featured natural hair stylists who provided hair services to a few lucky ladies.
Ladies stood on long lines just to see what amazing products that CGC had in store for all of us this year. From eating delicious food from food trucks to having small group discussions to just dancing to your heart’s content, Curl Fest had something for everyone. Peep in the video below, Guy Sweetfinger-Jones aka @iamjonesmusic and a Curl Fest attendee cutting a rug or cutting the lawn with their footwork!
The gift bags were filled with products from the Curl Fest sponsors– Carol’s Daughter, Miss Jessie’s, Denman, Kinky-Curly, Beautiful Textures, CURLS, Eden Bodyworks, Dark & Lovely, and Cantu products.
CURLFEST 2015 exuded sisterhood, love and light! The sun shined so brightly among the faces of all of us sisters, that there was no room for shade!!
